    Background - Charitable organization with a weak accounting function and internal control environment was preparing for a three year capital campaign.

    Solution - Recommended improvements to the accounting system, processes and procedures and related internal accounting controls, updated the accounting manual for the improvements, and designed management reports to monitor the progress of the corporate campaign. Assisted management recruit accounting staff to support the additional work required by the capital campaign.

  • Accounting systems and internal accounting control development

    Background - Automotive parts manufacturing company was reorganizing operations and the accounting functions and planning a technology conversion. The company had grown through acquisitions of companies with related product lines and through internal growth, and was considering consolidating and spinning-off certain product lines and divisions in the reorganization. The accounting systems of the acquired companies were not integrated into the primary systems. The company needed assistance developing and implementing an integrated company wide accounting and internal control system.

    Solution - Developed a company wide accounting and internal control structure and transition plan to systematically convert the corporate office and business units to the new company wide structure. The transition plan prioritized the conversions and other significant events, identified the manager owners, actions required, dates and expected outcomes, and included steps to prepare summary reports to evaluate and oversee the process. In addition to the transition plan, a dynamic accounting and internal control conversion process was created to integrate or separate future transactions, and other comments and recommendations were identified to assist management with other integration or separation matters for purchased or sold business units.

    Background - National professional service company began to experience reporting weaknesses, unusual budget variances and cash flow shortages. The company had made several large acquisitions and had not integrated the accounting systems and related processes, procedures and internal controls.

    Solution - Identified the root causes of the accounting system weaknesses that compromised the integrity of the management reports, and created immediate and short term correction procedures to improve the quality of reports and enable decision making. Developed a comprehensive company wide accounting and internal control system plan to integrate the systems, process and procedures of the legacy and acquired businesses, including revised accounting manuals and job descriptions for the corporate office and the subsidiaries.
